We are sorry to record the death of Mike Earls-Davis. Mike was an highly talented cricketer, indeed he played a number of games for Cambridge University and was close to getting a “Blue” at a time when university cricket was particularly strong. He was also one of a very small and elite band of OS to have played first-class county cricket and the talent which propelled him to that level was unselfishly deployed to the benefit of the Pilgrims in the many games he played for them. As Honorary Secretary to the Club over some 18 years his considerable organisational abilities, natural charm and humour were seen to their best advantage and materially helped the Club to maintain the objectives set out in its’ inception in 1923. As President of the Club in the 1980s he lent distinction to that post by his obvious passion for the Pilgrims coupled with the advantage of having an unsurpassed knowledge of the history of the Club’s affairs so equipping him to make consistently wise decisions on the various issues of the day. These exceptional contributions allowed the Club to develop into the thriving organisation it is now , to allow hundreds of Pilgrims over the years to enjoy the benefits of membership and to plainly place Mike as one of the most distinguished of all Pilgrims. Even after stepping down from the Presidency he continued to maintain close links with the Club and always remained interested in its exploits.
