Exceptionally warm and dry weather were the order of the day at this year’s Commem., as a Pilgrims team assembled to face the challenge of Sherborne Tennis Club on the School’s grass courts.  Playing a mixture of singles and doubles, to account for a last-minute drop-out which depleted our opposition’s numbers, the Pilgrims team eventually prevailed with a hard-fought victory!  While the heat proved a real challenge, it did not seem to diminish the quality of the tennis, which remained consistently high throughout the afternoon.  On this occasion the Pilgrims team was gratefully bolstered by the external assistance of Alex Vandeleur and Richard Downard, whose consistency and agile net play was invaluable, and whose first-round encounter, which lasted over an hour, set the standard for the rest of the day!

Thanks, as always, must go to the grounds team for maintaining such a fantastic playing surface, and to Jerry Priddle, for helping to coordinate everything in the run-up to, and on, the day.
