School 155-5( C E S Clifton 2-19, G F D Whipple 2-21); Pilgrims 155-2 ( F E Taylor 76*). Won by 8 wickets.

Seeking revenge for their earlier loss in the 50 over fixture, we took to the field determined to make amends by putting in a decent performance. Having lost the toss we were sent out to field and went about our work with great energy and decent performance levels. The fielders supported the bowlers, all of whom showed much skill and consistency. Charlie Clifton 2-19 and debutant George Whipple 2-21 were the pick of the bowlers whose efforts in particular enabled us to restrict the School to a fair but not unreachable total of 154 from their 20 overs. It was decided that we were to be very positive in our chase from the off, opening up with Tom Gibbs and Fergus Taylor in the hope that some hefty blows with their long levers would get us above the rate and off to a good start. Fortunately, things worked out exactly so with the Pilgrims smashing their way to 50 without loss off the first 5 overs. Despite the loss of Gibbs (15) and later another debutant T.Pope (12), also making his debut, Taylor (75* from 43 balls) and G. Pope brought us home in 17.3 overs. It was an excellent team performance and a satisfying and well-deserved victory which was a welcome change after the many successes the School has enjoyed against us in recent years.
