Pilgrims 199-5 (declared – 35 overs). Sherborne Town CC 149-8 (32 overs). Match Drawn.
Weary from the previous night’s opening festivities of The Cricket Week, the Pilgrims gingerly made their way up to Sherborne Town CC for the annual fixture which proved, yet again, to be a cracking game of cricket.
With the absence of skipper F Taylor The Pilgrims accordingly won the toss and made the sensible decision to bat first. The innings got off to a reasonable start with the aggressive Will Smibert smashing a quick-fire 24. Charlie Leach anchored the Pilgrims’ innings with a well-constructed 62 and Andrew Nurton finished it off with an explosive 72. The Pilgrims declared on 199 for 5 off 35 overs judging that would give them a similar number of overs as they had taken to bowl out The Town and win the match.
The men in brown caps certainly started well with the bowl claiming the the Town’s opening batsmen both for 0. R. Parfitt gave them some stability (40) and, with the overs ticking down, the opposition held on for a draw despite being 8 down for four nerve-racking overs. Ultimately, it was an excellent game of cricket played in a good spirit and we eagerly look forward to the fixture next year.
