Sunday September 1 2019 v Eton Ramblers.

Won by 2 wickets.

Eton Ramblers 169 all out (J Vitali 3-42, T Pope 2-19). Pilgrims 172-8 (W Smibert 67, J Vitali 36*).

The Eton fixture is always a great way to finish the season, with the ground switched to quaint Teddington this year.

We were put into the field, but the miserly James Vitali (3-42) and Alastair Pusinelli (1-23) got straight to work on putting pressure on the opening batsman.

After countless playing and missing, Vitali managed to find the outside edge of the […]

Sunday September 1 v Eton Ramblers at Eton.

Eton Ramblers 169 ( J.Vitali 3-42); Pilgrims 172-8, (. Smibert 67) . Won by 2 wickets.

Match report awaited.

Sunday August 18- T20 Tournament at Harrow.

Tournament cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Sunday August 11 v Marlborough Blues at Marlborough.

Marlborough Blues 148; Pilgrims 149-4 ( S.Carty 44*). Won by 6 wickets.

A comprehensive win for us. On winning the toss the Blues chose to bat on a slow wicket. Accurate bowling from Ed Bonnell( who also took an exceptional diving catch at midwicket ) and Alistair Pusinelli pegged them to a modest 148. We started off well with a bright 24 from Carline before he was perhaps controversially caught at slip. G. Atkins and T Gibbs carelessly ran themselves out before Seb Carty played something of a pathfinding […]

Friday July 12 v Canford Cygnets at Canford.

Canford Cygnets 300-6 dec; Pilgrims 183.Lost by 117 runs.

As the Canford fixture is the last day of ‘The Week’, we arrived feeling a little fragile especially a windy journey there. Losing the toss and being forced into the field, we were quickly pounced on by a fairly tidy opener who turned out to play for a Division 1 side. With the field back, Humprey Gibbs (feeling fresher than most) and Alistair Pusinelli stemmed the flow, until finally their class batsman was caught on the boundary for 132. We continued to pick up wickets along […]

Thursday July 11 v Clayesmore Cormorants at Sherborne.

Cormorants 199 ( P J R Reynolds 4-23); Pilgrims 201-4 ( F E Taylor 75, T A J Gibbs 42*). Won by 6 wickets.

This game clashed with England’s World Cup semi-final against Australia. The only explanation for such a blunder is that nobody at the ICC has heard of the Pilgrims Week, another black mark against the name of that forlorn organisation. Fortunately, the Cormorants brought a loudhailer that allowed frequent score updates to be relayed from the pavilion to players and umpires in the middle – a rôle in which Will Smibert […]

Wednesday July 10 v Bryanston Butterflies at Bryanston.

Bryanston Butterflies 299-6 dec( J Vitali 3-96); Pilgrims 123-7 ( J Vitali 42).Match drawn.

Although we had only lost one of our four matches thus far on the Week, it was fair to say we hadn’t hit our straps and were keen to step it up a gear. We were looking to claim a fourth victory in a row against Bryanston in the longer format on the Week but it wasn’t to be, with a thrilling draw being played out.

Having lost the toss again, we were […]

Tuesday July 9 v MCC at Sherborne.

MCC 287-4 dec; Pilgrims 228-8 ( S G A Walsh 53*). Match drawn

Despite a heavy night of drinking up at Sherborne Town CC we took to the field against the MCC buoyed by the previous day’s terrific win and a desire to avenge the previous year’s defeat to the Club. The MCC won the toss and elected to bat. We started off as well as could be with a wicket from the first ball of our innings! However, the rate of wickets therein dramatically fell, with just a further three falling throughout the […]

Monday July 8 v Sherborne Town CC at Sherborne.

Sherborne Town CC 243-8; Pilgrims 244-8 (S.Lamb 76*,P J R Reynolds 69). Won by 2 wickets.

After what was a very heavy first night of festivities on the Week, we were glad for the later 2pm start in our annual 40 over fixture against the Town. Taylor lost the toss again and we were unsurprisingly sent out to field. We started off really well with Andrew Nurton getting their best player, who not long ago played for Surrey, out for 10. We continued from there, bowling and fielding with accuracy and energy to have […]

Sunday July 7- T20 Stour Cup Tournament at Bryanston.

Match one: v Bryanston Butterflies .

Bryanston Butterflies 89-6 (A.Nurton 2-12, S. Lamb 2-13); Pilgrims 90-4 (C. Taylor 36). Won by 6 wickets.

Having won the previous year’s tournament, we were to start our defence of the cup against hosts Bryanston on the first team pitch. Captain Fergus Taylor lost the toss, a theme for the Week, and Bryanston elected to bat. Despite this setback we began our bowling innings very positively with tight and accurate spells from openers A. Nurton (2-12, four overs) and P. Reynolds (1-22, four overs). Our fielding was excellent […]
